Baton Rouge, La (NBC33) — DPW officials say two hundred bridges in East Baton Rouge Parish are in critical condition, and repairs take time and money that they don’t always have.
The Bluegrass bridge in the Glen Oaks subdivision is one of many currently under repair. This two lane bridge has been in repair for two years, and is just now being finalized. People in the Capitol City say two years is way too long, but the process to getting the money to pay for the bridges could take even longer. DPW Chief Engineer Jim Ferguson wants citizens to know DPW understands the inconvenience.
“We know when we close these bridges it is an inconvenience detour routes aren't fun, where I’m from in West Feliciana Parish we had a bridge close for replacement, I had a twelve mile detour." DPW Chief Design Engineer, Jim Ferguson, said.
