BATON ROUGE, LA. (NBC33) — Lt. Governor Jay Dardenne is announcing that Jim Hutchinson is resigning his position as assistant secretary of the Louisiana Office of Tourism, effective Friday, Nov. 11. LeAnne Weill will serve as acting assistant secretary until such time as Lt. Governor Dardenne, working with the Louisiana Tourism Development Commission as prescribed by statute, can conduct a nationwide search to appoint a new leader.
“I want to thank Jim for his service to the people of Louisiana and his leadership within the Office of Tourism, even as he faced the challenge of working under three lieutenant governors in the two-and-a-half years he’s been here,” Lt. Governor Dardenne said.
The assistant secretary is the top job in the Louisiana Office of Tourism and serves at the pleasure of the lieutenant governor. The job duties encompass all of the state’s tourism efforts, including advertising, public relations and Internet marketing contracts, the Atchafalaya National Heritage Area, the Scenic Byway Commission and 13 welcome centers. Lt. Governor Dardenne expects the search for a new assistant secretary to be complete before the 2012 Legislative Session begins on March 12.
Weill brings 25 years of advertising and public relations experience to the Office of Tourism. She previously contracted with the agency to review the requests for proposals dealing with the state’s multi-million-dollar tourism marketing contracts.
