BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — New LSU women’s basketball coach Nikki Caldwell earned her first victory as a Tiger Wednesday night. The Lady Tigers coasted to an easy victory over Xavier of New Orleans, 104-42. The 21st-ranked Tigers were led by senior LaSondra Barrett who scored 22 points, grabbed seven rebounds and dished out 11 assists in the exhibition game.
"LaSondra came out and really made a statement. I've been on her pretty hard regarding how she needs to represent this team and she needs to represent it in a big time way and tonight she did it. She did everything that was asked of her, but the one thing that will set her apart is her ability to make other people look better and she did that tonight,” Caldwell said following the game.
LSU forward Theresa Plaisance scored 20 points and highly-touted freshman Krystal Fothan added 14 points in her first game as a collegiate student-athlete. Every Tiger who took the court against Xavier scored at least one point.
The Lady Tigers open up the regular season at Wichita State on Nov. 14 before facing the No. 14th-ranked Georgetown Hoyas in the home opener on Wednesday, Nov. 16 at 7 p.m. Tickets for that game are still available.
