Baton Rouge, La (NBC33) — You don't have to hang around Ricky Wilson long to find out how he plans to continue the success of the Baton Rouge Community College men's basketball program.
“I’m up against time, but we are putting our foundation together: that’s defense and rebounding,” said Wilson. “I want our program to be known as a program that’s tough, guys that play hard, give 100 percent and will defend you from end to end."
While his team is working the backboards, the new man in charge is working the clock.
“It’s time… there’s just not enough hours in a day to get done what you want to do. So you have to focus on what’s important, and that’s defending and rebounding the ball.”
Wilson's trying to whip this group into shape in just three weeks; he’s so new to the program that he's just learned the players’ names.
“I get upset if forget their names, but this is a great group of guys that I inherited.”
So why defense and rebounding? Well, it’s plain and simple.
“I think it gives you the best chance of winning. The less possessions you can give the other team, the better chance you have of winning the game.”
BRCC opens up Thursday night at 7 p.m.
