BAKER, LA (NBC33) - — The Baker Fire Department has received the first fire simulator in all of south Louisiana.
The simulator was paid for with more than $300,000 in Federal grant money. The machine mimics everything a firefighter has to go through during an actual blaze. It can even produce lifelike sounds which help firefighters respond to real life situations, "We even have a sound system in there where they will actually have a baby screaming, woman screaming. We can also simulate explosions in there," says Howard Ward of the Baker Fire Department.
The grant requires that the Baker Fire Department allow other fire departments to train on the simulator. Before using the simulatorm Ward says Baker firefighters would often have to train using old or abandoned houses.
