BATON ROUGE,LA (NBC33) — Besides having a fun time at the Greater Baton Rouge State Fair, you also help out some worthy causes when you buy a ticket. The clients at Charlies PlaceRespite Center in Baton Rouge are dancing, thanks to the fair.
A player piano was purchased with funds from the fair foundation.
Charlies Place is part of the Alzheimer's Services of the Capitol area. Each week they have music therapy.
The services director, Dana Territo says this piano provides mental stimulation as well as transports the clients back in time to the songs of their of youth. "It just means the world to them," says Territo. "The old piano was just wearing on their nerves but this one plays all their types of music and it just brings such joy to their life"
“This particular program came to us and it was just a natural", says JH Martin, Foundation chairman. "The fair is a youth oriented event but those of us who put it on are getting older so it was the perfect place to spend some money."
Several dozen charities in the Baton Rouge area have benefitted from the foundation. Over 2-point-2 million dollars has given to worthy causes through the fair foundation since 1987.
The Greater Baton Rouge State Fair opens Thursday, Oct.27 and runs through Nov. 6.
