Baton Rouge, La (NBC33) — Besides having a large time at the Greater Baton Rouge State Fair, you also help out some worthy causes. The clients at Charlie’s Place Respite Center in Baton Rouge are dancing, thanks to the Greater Baton Rouge State Fair.
A player piano was purchased with funds from the Fair Foundation. Charlie’s Place is part of the Alzheimer’s services of the capitol area.
Each week they have music therapy, and the director says this piano provides mental stimulation as well as transports them back in time to the songs of their of youth.
“It just means the world to them,” said Dana Territo with the Alzheimer’s Services of Baton Rouge. “The old piano was just wearing on their nerves but this one plays all their types of music and it just brings such joy to their life."
J.H. Martin with the Fair Foundation adds, “This particular program came up to us, and it was just a natural. The fair is a youth oriented event, but those of us who put it on are getting older so it was the perfect place to spend some money."
Over $2.2 million has been given to worthy causes through the Fair Foundation since 1987.
