Baton Rouge, La (NBC33) — Homecoming week festivities continue at Southern University, and today, students participated in a Health and Wellness Fair on campus.
Students had the opportunity to get a variety of health screenings. Booths were set up for HIV exams, cholesterol testing and clinical breast exams. Doctors were also available if students had health questions.
"Anytime you can, integrate health into any activity, because if you don't have healthy students, then they can't go to class,” stated Shirley Wade, the director of student health services. “The best way to stay healthy is to learn how to prevent getting sick "
Some of the organizations that took part in the event included Planned Parenthood and the Louisiana Center for Health and Equity.
