Baton Rouge, La (NBC33) — Southern University proclaimed today is Traffic Safety Day.
The ceremony included a demonstration of what happens when drivers get into an accident and aren't wearing their seatbelts. Representatives from Mothers Against Drunk Driving and the Louisiana State Police were present at the safety ceremony.
Rhonda Wilson was a featured speaker today. A drunk driver killed her daughter just four years ago.
"The last four years have truly, truly been rough on me and my family. It just literally tore us apart,” said Wilson.
In 2010, 655 people died in traffic accidents in Louisiana. 39 percent of those deaths involved a drunk driver.
