NBC NEWS — Some folks in Britain are up in arms over a new movie and they're taking up for their favorite son, William Shakespeare.
The movie "Anonymous" questions whether Shakespeare really wrote all of his plays and sonnets.
A British group called the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust is covering up the name Shakespeare in the playwright's home county to protest the movie.
Shakespeare enthusiasts say that they've heard all the conspiracy theories before.
"There's no evidence whatsoever. The whole thing is a fabrication. It's a conspiracy theory, and it's been going on for about 150 years,” said trust member Stanley Wells. “It didn't start until long after Shakespeare died. Nobody doubted the authorship of Shakespeare's works in his lifetime. If you go to the church here, you'll see a monument to William Shakespeare of Stratford-On-Avon with inscriptions, one in Latin and the other in English, praising him as a great writer."
The movie's scheduled to open at the London Film Festival.
