Baton Rouge, La (NBC33) — Future B.R. is a comprehensive plan for East Baton Rouge Parish.
Mayor Kip Holden said, “This city is 60 years behind in infrastructure. We're more aggressive in developing the area around the river front.”
Anyone who's driven around town or attempted to walk or bike has noticed that there's simply not enough room.
Due to this, the mayor and the Metro Council brought in a consultant to find out what residents wanted to see changed.
Everyone involved says now's the time to act, even though we're in an economic slump. They say when companies start expanding again, they should be thinking of the Capitol City.
A big part of the plan is to make Baton Rouge more open to re-development, specifically in Mid-City. They're hoping to add some more affordable housing options in the area.
Future B.R. will start almost immediately.
“I think it's just human nature, when things are under construction, to get a little impatient,” stated John Fregonese with Fregonese Associates. “Once they're done though, I think they're going to be amazed what happens to this place.”
It's a plan the mayor and his staff hope will make Baton Rouge more attractive for residents and businesses alike.
