PIKE COUNTY, Miss. (WDSU — A fugitive whose been on the run for days stole a car and fired at deputies early Tuesday morning before running into the woods, a Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office spokesperson said.
Kaunda Magee stole a car in Kentwood, deputies believe. They tracked Magee to the car Tuesday morning, but when they found him, he reportedly fired at them.
Magee then led investigators on a chase into Pike County, Miss., where he disappeared in the woods, deputies said.
Deputies were not injured in the shooting. It is unclear whether Magee was shot or not.
Investigators are still searching for him at this time.
Magee has been on the run for nearly two weeks. Officials have described him as dangerous, and say his past includes charges of rape and attempted murder.
This is not the first time that officers have closed in on the fugitive. Last week, Magee shot a police dog as deputies nearly captured him.
