BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — Glen “Big Baby” Davis launched the Imagination Library today at Istrouma Early Head Start. The nationwide program gives age-appropriate books to kids five and under every month.
The program helps to encourage reading as a way of improving early childhood development.
The United Way helped bring the former LSU basketball star to the local pre-school for the organization's Make-A-Difference Day
“We've talked for a long time about the problems in education and we've got to start finding the ways to make a difference,” Karen Profita, CEO of Capitol Area United Way, said. “This is one of those ways. This is a way that people can be involved. It's a very easy thing to do and it has a lasting impact."
Over 50 volunteers spending their day reading in over 44 classrooms.
