Baton Rouge, La (NBC33) — Southern is holding many major events coinciding with its Homecoming week.
The university will hold a “Fame and Fashion” Talent Show at 7:30 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 23, in the F. G. Clark Activity Center.
The show is open to the public. Admission is $1 and proceeds will benefit St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital.
Terral Jackson Jr. of Perfect 10 Productions will be the guest host.
The fashion show will include models from the University’s student modeling troupes and SU students will perform during the talent segments.
The winning of the talent show will open for the artist at the Homecoming Concert on Thurdsday, Oct. 27.
Also, BET’s Black College Tour will make a stop at Southern University on Wednesday, Oct. 26 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m., on the lawn of Mayberry Dining Hall.
The tour, in its 10th year, remains the largest event of its kind targeting Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) in an effort to highlight and support HBCUs by providing relevant, engaging and meaningful outreach to minority students.
The tour will feature an “Under Armour 3-Point Basketball Shoot-out” competition, “Air Force 2-on-2 Basketball Contest,” “Drop the Beat” music trivia contest, “Video Skillz Challenge,” where students can play the latest EA Sports games, and a BET Digital Freestyle Rap Battle.
Southern students will also be able to sing a song acappella during the KFC Singer’s Spotlight for a chance to win prizes. The students will also be treated to a concert by a national recording artist.
The event will be filmed and televised on the network in November.
Finally, Southern University’s Annual Homecoming Greek Show will be held at 7:30 p.m., Friday, Oct. 28, in the Felton G. Clark Activity Center.
Nine groups of fraternities and sororities will compete for a cash prize and a chance to represent the university in the Greek Show Extravaganza and Battle of the Bands at the Bayou Classic football game in New Orleans.
The first- and second-place teams will advance to the Bayou Classic Greek Show.
Tickets are $10 and will go on sale Oct. 17 at the Southern University Ticket Office, East side of A.W. Mumford Stadium near the fieldhouse. Tickets can also be purchased at the door.
