NBC News — Thousands of people rallied in support of Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad in Damascus wednesday. Syrian state TV broadcast footage of a huge crowd in the heart of the capital. Many waved Syrian flags, carried pictures of Assad, and cheered his name.
The demonstration comes as pro-democracy protests continue across the country. The United Nations says more than 3000 people have been killed since the Assad regime cracked down on the protests that began in mid March.
