PORT VINCENT, LA (NBC33) — A concerned citizen called the Port Vincent Police on Sunday, Oct. 9 after spotting a child two-year-old child wandering in a wooded area. The child wasn’t wearing any clothes.
Officials say the child climbed down a flight of stairs and out of her home. The child then began walking down an Amite River side canal for about ¼ of a mile. That’s when the Good Samaritan found the toddler.
The child’s mother, Morgan Patterson, 19, was located back at the Port Vincent home where the child escaped. When questioned, Patterson admitted that she was asleep at the time, and didn’t know the child had went missing.
The Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services took the child into custody and arrested Patterson for one count of Child Desertion and 3 counts of Unpaid Traffic Tickets. Patterson was booked into the Livingston Parish Detention Center. The child will remain in custody of the state until the investigation is concluded.
