BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — The two candidates looking to become Lieutenant Governor squared off on Thursday, Oct. 6 in Baton Rouge. NBC33's Jason Newton was there for it all and spoke to the candidates one-on-one beforehand.
The debate between Lieutenant Governor Jay Dardenne and contender Billy Nungesser was put together in just the last couple days, but it comes at a time as the attack ads are getting more personal.
The position of Lieutenant Governor is mainly responsible for tourism in the state and maintaining museums, but the race has taken a sharp turn between the two candidates with several attack ads being aired by both sides .
With that said, the debate was mostly cordial, without a lot of back-and-forth. Both candidates mostly stuck to their campaign talking points. Both Dardenne and Nungesser are republicans, and the election will of course be held on Saturday, October 22.
