Prarieville, La (NBC33) — Thousands of backpacks are being packed up and getting ready for a trip to overseas.
Volunteers with the Children's Cup organization in Prairieville working today to prepare the book bags for their trip to Africa.
Children's Cup has been collecting school supplies for two months.
Nearly 7,000 book bags are headed to some of the poorest children in Africa.
Dan Ohlerking, the organizer, says these school supplies not only help these kids get an education but it gives them hope.
"These kids know that education is their way out of poverty. So some of these kids are actually selling resorting to selling themselves as prostitutes to earn the money to go to school, and so we want to stop that. We want to say hey, you know we can come in and give you hope, give you an education, help you get that education. " Dan Ohlerking, Children's Cup Organizer, said.
