BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — As Baton Rouge continues to propel forward in the national spotlight for brining more entertainment industry jobs to the Capitol City, one group works to keep the creativity flowing with a special lecture series called Creative Louisiana.
“We have amazing creativity in Louisiana and by building our creative community we can continue to make this region a creative powerhouse,” Wendy Overton, organizer of Creative Louisiana, explained.
On the last Friday of every month, Creative Louisiana brings people in the community together with a free lecture from real people working in various industries. Tonight, Friday, Sept. 30, local fashion designer Anthony Ryan Auld will hit the stage of the Manship Theatre to tell how he landed a spot on Season 9 of Project Runway.
“Anthony is an example of the creative energy of south Louisiana,” Overton said when asked why Auld was chosen to speak. “To highlight his skill is an example of the intersection of business and creativity work together.”
Auld’s is the fourth speaker in the Creative Louisiana series, which is sponsored in part by LSU Continuing Education. It all began back in June 2011 with local artist Kelli Scott Kelley, who gave a speech at the Baton Rouge Gallery.
“I want them to be inspired to go back to their work and approach it with fresh eyes,” Overton said when asked what she hopes people leave with at the end of a lecture.
Tonight’s event will begin at 8:30. It is free and open to the public.
