BATON ROUGE, La (NBC33) — Tempers are still high after Mayor-President Kip Holden and Councilman Ulysses Addison butted heads at last night's Metro Council meeting, "Mr. Addison is somebody that I'm gonna have to pray for. When a guy walks up to you and says you got to go tell the white man what I was talking about in regards to the compromise. Well, there's something wrong with that," says Holden.
What he's talking about is Mayor Pro Tem Mike Walker's proposal concerning a construction project in downtown Baton Rouge.
Addison says race had nothing to do with it, "What I said to the Mayor-President was that when I talked to the finance department about the matter, for him to say he didn't want to talk to me, but he'll talk to Mike Walker was unfair."
Addison is also mad at Holden's claim that Addison is the reason that the meeting was ended before all of the council's business was completed, "If anyone says I enticed or asked them to walk out. Never had no such conversation. So to say that is totally baseless and it's not fair to those other members, whatever they were doing."
The Mayor-President though stands by his belief that Addison is to blame, "The actions that he took amounted to a disservice to the people of Baton Rouge and East Baton Rouge Parish."
Addison disagrees, "While the Mayor-President put it in that context. I'll tell you he's grossly in error."
