BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — The Metro Council decides that the Companion Animal Alliance will continue to operate the East Baton Rouge Parish Animal Shelter – at least for the next 30 days.
This comes after the CAA presented an outline to the council on Wednesday, Sept. 28. In it the CAA addressed issues that were revealed during an investigation at the shelter that recorded signs of neglect, overcrowding and unsafe conditions.
The CAA told Metro Council members that they’ve partnered with several other animal welfare groups in the capitol area to help increase adoptions and find foster families. The group has also put off going 100 percent “no kill” for the immediate future.
One month ago CAA was asked to complete an outline on how they plan to improve conditions at the shelter.
The Metro Council voted to allow CAA 30 days to continue improving conditions at the shelter. After those 30 days expire, they plan to re-evaluate the progress.
