Australia (NBC33) — Australian women are now free to serve on the front lines of war. Tuesday, Australia's government announcing it is dropping all gender restrictions for the military.
Australia becomes the fourth country after Canada, New Zealand and Israel to open all combat roles to female soldiers who pass physical entry tests.
The government said the ban will be lifted immediately, but it may take up to five years to fully implement the new measure.
Australia has around 1,550 troops in Afghanistan right now.
