BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — Plaquemines Parish President Billy Nungesser says scheduling conflicts are keeping from tonight's Lt. Governor debate in Baton Rouge. He sited the same reason for canceling another debate set for next week.
The debate is sponsored by Pachyderms of Greater Baton Rouge, and a member of that organization tells NBC33 News that current Lt. Governor Jay Dardenne plans to still attend and take questions.
In a statement to NBC33 News the Nungesser campaign team says “We received notifications for both events after Billy had committed to be elsewhere in the state. We look forward to debating Mr. Dardenne in an open venue with equal and fair terms agreed to by both campaigns. When that scenario arises, we will be participating.”
Nungesser also says he will not attend a second debate scheduled for Monday, Sept. 26 that was arranged by the Baton Rouge Press Club.
