NBC NEWS — President Obama and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had a sideline chat after addressing the U.N. General Assembly today.
The prime minister thanked the president for endorsing direct talks between Israelis and Palestinians.
President Obama said that peace cannot be imposed on the parties; they have to negotiate.
Netanyahu responded to the president's remarks, saying that Israel will not support the Palestinians attempt to join the United Nations, and that further peace attempts are difficult because of what Netanyahu described as the Palestinians trying to take "short cuts" and not negotiate peace.
