ASSUMPTION PARISH, LA (NBC33) — Assumption Parish residents breathed a sigh of relief after this weekend's flooding.
This past weekend, several homeowners’ yards on Daggs Street were completely flooded with water.
The Assumption Parish Sheriff's Office said a lot of the flooding had to do with inundation water in the sugarcane fields behind the neighborhood.
Due to the quick reaction of neighbors, and the parish, their houses didn't get flooded.
"The good thing about it - Dorseyville is a small neighborhood,” said resident Doris Wiggins. “And we're pulling together, helping each other with the sand bags and all."
Residents say the neighborhood still floods, but the city and parish is now working on the drainage in that area.
