Baton Rouge, La (NBC33) — In Baton Rouge, the flood fight is hitting close to home for many in the Capitol City. Some are using different ways to stop the rising water.
Jessica Stick's yard is completely flooded. She asked her father to come help make sure the water doesn't reach her door.
His answer was to install a submersible pump, a waterproof device that pushes water out of a hose and drains into the street.
Kelly Stick says it's low tech, but works like a charm.
"We went to Home Depot and it was 130 bucks, little sub pump hooked up to a hose, plug it into a 110 outlet, you're pumpin' somethin', not ideal, but it's moving water, " said Kelly Stick, a mechanical supervisor for Shell Oil.
