BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — The Tropical Disturbance in the Gulf just upgraded to a Tropical Storm. Just before 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 1, Governor Bobby Jindal issued a State of Emergency 1 for Louisiana .
Jindal issued the order due to the threat of prolonged, heavy rainfall and high tides along the coastal parishes with the threat of flash flooding.
A Flash Flood Watch has been issued for the next 72 hours for parts of southeastern Louisiana.
The Director of the Governor’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness is now authorized to do everything the law allows to keep the public safe. The state of emergency extends through Friday, Sept. 30, unless terminated sooner.
