NBC News — Algeria's Foreign Minister says Moammar Khaddafy is not in Algeria and will not be allowed to enter the country. The foreign minister made his comments thursday during an interview for Europe 1 Radio. Khaddafy's wife, two sons and daughter Aisha fled to Algeria on monday. The move angered the Libyan rebels' National Transitional Council.
Algeria's Foreign Minister said they were allowed in the country for "humanitarian" reasons. Algeria's Health Ministry said Aisha Khaddafy gave birth to a girl on August 30th. Algerian news reports said Aisha's pending child birth was one reason for the decision to take the family in.
Rebels have accused Algeria of providing Khaddafy with mercenaries to suppress the six month uprising. But Algeria's Foreign Minister said thursday the country had never taken Khaddafy's side. He spoke on Europe 1 Radio hours before attending an international conference on Libya taking place in Paris.
