The commander of American military forces in the Middle East, General David Petraeus, has successfully undergone treatment for prostate cancer. According to the New York Times, General Petraeus was diagnosed with early-stage prostate cancer back in February.
According to his spokesperson, the general spent two months undergoing radiation treatment at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, DC for the illness. The spokesperson added that the treatment had minimal impact on the general's work schedule and appears to have been successful.
The general says he chose to not make the information public until now because he and his family considered the situation a private matter.
