BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — Texas will finally get a new taste of BBQ – Louisiana style. VooDoo BBQ & Grill is expanding its franchise to the Lone Star state by opening five restaurants in Austin, TX.
According to Grassroots Newswire, VooDoo signed a deal with Magic Restaurant Group Inc to open the locations over the course of the next five years, with the possibility of more if the demand is high.
“We’re excited to establish a footprint in Texas, where we know people love barbecue. They’ll get to experience VooDoo’s combination of New Orleans-style flavor and fun and a diverse and exciting menu,” Tony Avila, CEO of VooDoo BBQ, said in a press release. “We’re tapping into a major barbecue market in a big, growing and diverse city, and we’re thrilled to help our footprint there grow.”
Magic Restaurant Group is owned by Brent Willits, 52, who says VooDoo is the perfect model because of its food quality, number of avid fans, and the growth potential of the franchise model.
“We were looking for something we thought was not just high quality, but something that was on the verge, that could be really big but wasn’t so big yet that it required a huge investment,” Willits said.
VooDoo BBQ opened its first location in 2002 on St. Charles Avenue in New Orleans. They have a fast-casual atmosphere and slow-cook’s pork, chicken and beef over a mixture of hardwoods. The meat is then served without sauce.
“Trust me -- Austinites are in for a unique experience they’ll want to taste over and over again.”
