THIBODAUX, La (WDSU) — Jeremiah Lee Wright has been assigned a lawyer in the first-degree murder case against him. Prosecutors could seek the death penalty.
Write confessed to killing his seven year old son, Jori Lirette Sunday afternoon, saying he decapitated and then dismembered the boy over the kitchen sink. It all happened at their family home in Thibodaux while the boy’s mother was out running errands.
According to our affiliate in New Orleans, WDSU, attorney Kerry Cuccia will represent Wright in court.
Jori’s mother, Jesslyn Lirette faced her son’s father and confessed killer in court today when the appointment was made.
Police Chief Scott Silvestrii said Monday that they do not have an official motive in the case, but Wright did admit he was tired of caring for Jori, who had cerebral palsy and needed a wheelchair and feeding tube.
Wright will be arraigned in New Orleans on September 16.
