NBC News — Royal Dutch Shell says it has stopped the main leak at an oil rig in the North Sea, but is still trying to shut down a second leak in a hard to reach area of the ocean floor. Shell estimated monday that 54,600 gallons of oil had spilled into the North Sea from the Gannet Alpha Platform.
The company says the leak has now been slowed to about 84 gallons a day. The platform is located about 112 miles east of Aberdeen, Scotland. The spill is Britain's worst in a decade.
