NBC33S PET ADOPTION — THIS IS AN NBC33 NEWS UPDATE: Dottie the pit bull is recovering well, thanks to the efforts of dedicated animal humane groups. Although her recovery is going well, she will be leaving her temporary home on Monday.
Currently Dottie is in the care of the Ascension Parish Animal Shelter in Gonzales. She is in excellent care, however, the time allowed for her care has come to an end.
“If a foster family isn’t found by Monday, then we will pull Dottie and check her into a kennel,” Kristie Sullens, co-founder of the humane group Save-An-Angel, said in a letter updating Dottie’s situation. “The kennel is in Lafayette near a woman who agreed to visit Dottie several times each week and give her rides to the vet. We are calling the woman a surrogate foster. She will walk Dottie, take her for rides and help to ease her into society.”
Nothing in life, however, is free. The donations that have been given to the Save-An-Angel will pay for the kennel in order to spare Dottie from being euthanized. They need continued support, or a foster family to take Dottie permanently. If you would like to make a donation, click here. http://goo.gl/58zgT

Dottie the pit bull was found dying along the side of a road in Gonzales roughly one week ago. The cause of the injury was due to a shoe string that had been tied around the dog’s neck.
The animal survived the incident and was rescued by the Ascension Parish Animal Shelter in Gonzales. The organization utilized a fund that was created by school children in the area to provide medical treatment. A rescue organization has been called to help assist in finding the pit bull a new home.
“We told them we would be happy to help find her a home if we could get donations and a foster family,” Kristie Sullens, Co-founder of the Save-An-Angel rescue, explained.
Save-An-Angle was able to find a temporary home for the pit bull, but unfortunately, they were not able to keep. Dottie has been returned to the shelter, but still urgently needs to find somewhere else to go.
Dottie is heartworm positive, she needs to be spayed & be brought up to date on shots. Dottie already has a tab at the vet for her neck. We aren't sure how much all of this will cost, so we set a goal for $2,500 to cover everything she might need. Donations can also be made directly to the veterinary office. Donations will be used to help pay for Dottie's medical expenses, food, possible travel costs.
Donations are needed & can be made via PAYPAL HERE or directly to her vet. Or, you can make a donation to the Ascension Parish Animal Hospital by calling (225) 744-4905.
