BATON ROUGE, La — As the LSU soccer team prepares to kick off the 2011-12 athletic season at Memphis on Friday night, a quartet of Tiger seniors have been tabbed team captains as Allysha Chapman, Mo Isom, Natalie Martineau and Kellie Murphy will lead the team on the field during the fall campaign.
The Tigers open the 2011 season on Friday night against the four-time defending Conference USA Tournament champion Memphis Tigers as kickoff is set for 7 p.m. CT at the Mike Rose Soccer Complex.
The quartet of Chapman, Isom, Martineau and Murphy teams with Taryne Boudreau to form a strong five-member senior class for the Tigers as they hope to lead the squad into the race for the SEC Championship this fall. The Tigers are poised to return to the form that won three-straight SEC West crowns and secured three-straight NCAA Tournament appearances from 2007-09, while also finishing runner-up in the league table in both 2008 and 2009 in the race for the SEC Championship.
“We’re blessed with a tremendous senior class that will play a vital role in our success this fall,” said LSU head coach Brian Lee. “Obviously, their level of play on the field will be a key for our team this fall. Each one of these young women provides our team with All-SEC ability at each position on the field.
“They also provide our program with tremendous leadership off the field, especially organizing our club’s community service efforts. They’ve been instrumental in LSU Soccer winning three-straight Tiger Cups.”
