Baton Rouge, La (NBC33) — The Secretary of State's office says Democrats aren't the majority for the first time in Louisiana's history.
Republicans and Independents make up just over half of the state's 3 million voters.
Political experts say the combination of lower voter registration and the open primary election system are the reason behind the decrease.
In this next election, political experts expect democrats will hold just under fifty percent of the vote, republicans will hold twenty seven percent, and other party voters will hold twenty four percent of the majority.
