BATON ROUGE, LA —
Today Representative Taylor Barras, New Iberia, has announced his switch to the Republican Party.
Representative Barras, elected in 2007, is completing his first term in the Louisiana House of Representatives. As one of the most conservative members of the House, his voting record with the Louisiana Association of Business and Industry is 83 percent and with the Louisiana Family Forum 89 percent.
Representative Jane Smith, chairman of the House Delegation, welcomes Representative Barras to the Republican Delegation. "Since the first day I met my good friend, Taylor Barras, I kept telling him that he belonged with the Republican Delegation. I am extremely happy to welcome him aboard and have enjoyed serving with him on Ways and Means as well as House and Governmental Affairs.
With this switch, the Republican majority in the House now stands at 56 to 46 Democrats and three Independents.
Noting that he will continue to fight for a better Louisiana, Representative Barras believes that the
most critical issue in our state is to improve our economy, by reducing the size and cost of government and putting businesses in a position to grow and create jobs.
Representative Barras serves on the Committees on House and Governmental Affairs; Municipal, Parochial and Cultural Affairs; Ways and Means; and the Joint Legislative Committee on Capital Outlay.
