THIBODAUX, LA (NBC33) - — NBC33 News Update: Thibodaux Police Jeremiah Wright, 30, has confessed to killing his girlfriend's 7 year old son, saying he dismembered the boy over the kitchen sink. He is being held on $5mil bond.
The boy was killed Sunday afternoon. We're told a passerby spotted the head of the young boy near the sidewalk of their home on West 7th Street. That person called police, who found the rest of Jori Lirette’s remains in a garbage can.
Police Chief Scott Silverii tells WDSU in New Orleans Jori was a second-grade student at South Thibodaux Elementary School. He had special needs and used a wheelchair.
His mother was not at home when the boy was killed. Police say she had to be hospitalized after being told what happened to her son.
An autopsy is scheduled for Monday. Police have not released a motive.

THIBODAUX, LA (WDSU)
Detectives have made an arrest in the death of a small child whose remains were found in Thibodaux on Sunday. Police Chief Scott Silverii said the body was found about 12:15 p.m. near the intersection of Church and West Seventh streets.
Silverii identified the victim as 7-year-old Jori Lirette, a second-grade student at South Thibodaux Elementary School, Silverii said officers are treating the child's death as a homicide.
A source close to the investigation told WDSU that Lirette had special needs and that his body had been dismembered. Silverii said police have charged 30-year-old Jeremiah Wright in connection with the child's death.
Detectives said Wright was living with the boy and his mother. Wright was described as the woman's boyfriend.
Silverii said Wright was charged with first-degree murder and is being held on a $5 million bond.
An autopsy was scheduled to learn more about the cause of death and crime scene technicians removed evidence from the victim's home on Sunday for analysis.
