BATON ROUGE, La (NBC33) — Wednesday was the first day of school for East Baton Rouge Parish and Ascension Parish Public Schools. Many charter schools also opened their doors to students today, some for the very first time.
Anxious Kindergarteners were reassured by teachers and administrators at Inspire Charter Academy on their first day. They even got a few words of encouragement from their older peers.
Ashley Alexander is in fourth grade. Her little brother is in Kindergarten. She made sure he knew what to do, to get the first day off to a good start.
“I told him, don’t be scared, just go into school and tell your teacher that this is your first day of school.”
Reagan Payne, a third grader at Inspire, says she’s passing along a lesson she’s learned in her years since Kindergarten.
“It's nothing to be nervous about,” says Reagan. “It's just other kids like you, trying to learn.”
On NBC33 News at 5pm, see how other students dealt with the first day jitters, and what teachers say parents can do to make this school year a success.
