Baton Rouge, La (NBC33) — Most schools in south Louisiana are getting ready to start back up, and the teachers at Highland Elementary are already out in full force.
The teachers are going door to door, introducing themselves to students and parents.
The event happens every year in the Gardere area of Baton Rouge.
Both parents and teachers say it's important to motivate the kids before the first bell rings.
“It’s important to us to get out here to knock on their doors to let them know that we're here for them,” stated teacher Emily Johnson. “We're coming to them to invite them back to the school year.”
Highland Elementary starts up again on Wednesday.
