Baton Rouge, La (NBC33) — Closing the Lively Bayou Bridge on North Flannery blocks the normal route of the Flannery Fire Station, responding to calls north of Florida Boulevard.
The station is less than a block from the closed bridge, and now firefighters will cut through near-by neighborhoods to get to Choctaw.
They say that will slow response time down by just a few minutes. Robert Combs with the Baton Rouge Fire Department says they already have a plan in place to get help on more serious calls.
"We do believe that the Flannery Station would be able to handle the response if it’s just a minor incident or just a first aid call,” stated Combs. “Anything major, we respond with additional units anyways so they would all be in route."
The fire station on Monterrey and the Central Fire Station are both on automatic response, to support the station on North Flannery.
