VILLE PLATTE, LA (NBC33) — A disturbing case of animal cruelty out of Evangeline Parish. The Sheriff’s department says they’ve arrested a man who was in possession of 20 dogs that were severely emaciated.
When Deputies arrived at the home of Calvin Freeman of Ville Platte, they found the dogs in terrible condition. The animals were found without food, water or adequate shelter, so they were removed and taken to the Town and Country Veterinary Clinic for observation. Fourteen of the dogs had to be euthanized because of the severity of their condition. The remaining dogs are being cared for by the Humane Society
Freeman was charged on Monday, July 18 on 14 counts of animal cruelty. He has been booked into the Evangeline Parish Jail. Additional charges are pending the outcome of a separate complaint involving Freeman.
