PORT ALLEN, LA (NBC33) — The Port Allen Fire Department confirmed they have stopped a leak at the Apex Oil Company plant in Port Allen. A tank at the plant, which is near the new Mississippi River bridge, was leaking late last night. The fire department could not confirm what product was in that tank, or why it started leaking.
DEQ has been monitoring the air around the plant, after complaints of a foul odor last night. No evacuations have been ordered so far. And NBC33 news crew was back on the scene this morning, and reported that smell was gone.
An investigation begins this morning. More details will be released at a press conference later this morning, with interim Port Allen mayor, R.J. Loupe and Fire Chief Richard Boudreaux.
