DONALDSONVILLE, LA (APSO) — The Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office reports the arrest of two Gonzales men following a rash of shootings that occurred in the City of Donaldsonville on the night of July 3.
As a result of the shootings two individuals were struck by gunfire and sustained non-life threatening injuries. A number of cars were also struck by gunfire.
The first shooting occurred in the parking lot at McDonalds in Donaldsonville where multiple gunshots rang out and citizens were forced to take cover. A vehicle in the parking lot was stuck by the gunfire, fortunately no one was injured. Detectives recovered nearly forty spent handgun and rifle rounds from the McDonalds crime scene.
Approximately thirty minutes later deputies responded to Elizabeth Street where again, multiple gunshots rang out. One person, who is believed to be an innocent bystander, was struck by the gunfire and was treated at a local hospital and later released. Four vehicles were also struck during this shooting. Some homes were found to have bullet holes in them but are still under investigation in order to determine if they are related to this particular shooting. Detectives recovered nearly 20 spent handgun rounds at the Elizabeth Street crime scene.
During the course of the shooting investigations it was learned by detectives that the McDonalds and Elizabeth Street shootings were connected and possibly several different groups were involved. Following a very intense four day investigation detective’s identified one group as being from Gonzales. They are identified as twenty-one year old Demetrius Christopher Williams and twenty year old Anthony Marquette Clark.
On the evening of July 7, 2011 detectives obtained arrest warrants on the duo and arrested them at Williams’ home in Gonzales. A search of the home resulted in two bullet proof vests and a handgun being recovered. Williams was found to have a gunshot wound to his arm and was reportedly treated at a Baton Rouge hospital. Detectives believe this gunshot was sustained during the shooting at McDonalds.
On July 7, 2011, Demetoris Christopher Williams, 21, of 1108 South Hempshire Street Gonzales, Louisiana was arrested and charged with one count of attempted 2nd degree murder, five counts of criminal damage to property, illegal use of a weapon, and disturbing the peace.
On July 7, 2011, Anthony Marquette Clark, 20, of 205 East Roosevelt Street Gonzales, Louisiana was arrested and charged with one count of attempted 2nd degree murder, five counts of criminal damage to property, illegal use of a weapon, and disturbing the peace.
Both are currently incarcerated on $290,000 bonds each that were set by Judge Thomas Kliebert.
On July 12, 2011, detectives were successful in identifying two additional suspects in the McDonalds and Elizabeth Street shootings. Detectives are also attempting to identify a fifth suspect in the shooting.
Detectives obtained an arrest warrant on twenty-one year old Malcolm Oliver for attempted 2nd degree murder, Illegal use of a weapon, disturbing the peace and aggravated assault. He has a criminal history dating back to 2009 that consist of battery, weapons charges, and attempted 2nd degree murder. He is currently out on bond pending court proceedings in another parish for the attempted 2nd degree murder charge.
Detectives also obtained an arrest warrant on twenty-two year old Larry Earl Miles for principal to attempted 2nd degree murder, Illegal use of a weapon, disturbing the peace and aggravated assault. Miles has a criminal history dating back to 2007 that consist of 2nd degree murder, domestic abuse battery, aggravated battery, possession of stolen property, contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile, flight from an officer, and drug and weapons charges.
In the late afternoon hours of July 12, 2011, Ascension detectives, narcotics agents, and uniform patrol with the assistance of DEA agents and Louisiana State Police converged on both Oliver and Miles’ homes in Donaldsonville and was unsuccessful in locating the two wanted fugitives.
Later on the evening of July 12 Malcolm Oliver, 22, of 201 Madewood Street Donaldsonville, Louisiana surrendered to authorities where he was booked into the Ascension Parish jail on attempted 2nd degree murder, Illegal use of a weapon, disturbing the peace and aggravated assault in connection with the McDonalds and Elizabeth Street shootings. No bond has been set at time of media.
Detectives are also attempting to identify still a fifth suspect in the shooting. At this point of the investigation it is believed that on the night of July 3rd Miles, Oliver, and the unidentified suspect were having a gunfight with Demetoris Christopher Williams and Anthony Clark in the McDonalds parking lot that carried over to Elizabeth Street.
