Baton Rouge, La (NBC33) — The Department of Housing and Urban Develoment is trying to help out homeowners in Louisiana struggling to pay their mortgages.
A new program called Emergency Home Loan Program has set up one billion dollars to go to approximatley 30,000 home owners around the U.S.
Louisiana was selected as one of the thirty two states to receive some of the funds. HomeOwnership.org is a non-profit organization working to help support this program. President Aaron Horvath says it'll be a great help to those in need.
"For a lot of families who had either a job loss or they're not making as much money as they used to, this is the relief they need to stay in their homes while they find that next job and rebuild that income," he explained.
To apply, go to www.HomeOwnership.org . Or, call their 24-hour hotline at (888) 995-HOPE (4677).
