BATON ROUGE, La (NBC33) — It's official. The New Southern University chancellor started the job Friday on campus. Jim Llorens says he faces challenges as he steps up to the position, issues like declining enrollment and major cuts to be made to meet this year's budget.
Llorens says he's ready for them. He's already been working with faculty and board members to balance the budget. He also plans to up recruitment for the school and push for more community involvement.
"It's a chance to make decisions and bring people together, bring the community together to move this university forward," says Llorens.
The first order of business is the budget. He says a decision has to be made on the budget within the next several weeks.
