NBC News — Thousands of tourists from across China are flocking to Beijing ahead of the 90th anniversary of the founding of the country's communist party. A huge decoration of a hammer and sickle has been set up in Tiananmen Square, but there was no obvious additional security present ahead of the anniversary friday.
China's communist party was founded in 1921 and is the ruling and only political party in China. Mao Zedong was the party's first chairman, the party is now led by Hu Jintao, the General Secretary of the communist party of China. The party has been modernized since its founding, but it still opposes all opposition to its autocratic rule. The CPC is the world's largest political party, claiming some 80 million members.
