BATON ROUGE, LA (ASCENSION PARISH) - — Parish officials have approved the use of fireworks in Ascension Parish during the upcoming July 4th holiday. This excludes the City of Gonzales and the City of Donaldsonville.
Parish President Tommy Martinez approved the use of fireworks after recent heavy rains improved dry conditions in the parish. Although the approval has been made, President Martinez urges residents to use extreme caution because the statewide burn ban is still in place.
Gonzales Fire Chief Tracey Normand said fireworks use is still banned inside the Gonzales city limits.
Donaldsonville Fire Chief Chuck Montero said the use of consumer fireworks is prohibited inside the Donaldsonville city limits as always but the annual fireworks display at the Mississippi River will take place on July 3.
