Baton Rouge, La (NBC33) — Over the last two weeks, four Baton Rouge homes have caught fire because of lightning strikes.
The latest happened on June 12 near College Drive, which struck the roof and caused major damage. No one was hurt.
"My wife saw smoke, so I went outside and I saw the smoke coming out from underneath the eves of the house,” stated victim Jerry Erckert. “We called the Fire Department and they were out here real quick; they did a real fine job, and I'd like to thank those people…We're up in the air. We don't know what we're going to do."
Homes have not been the only target. At least three trees have fallen in the last two weeks because of lightning strikes.
Also, one car was disabled while on Highland Road because of nearby lightning.
