Over ten thousand animals in East Baton Rouge Parish alone are euthanized every year. Of that number, cats maintain the highest percentage due to the overwhelming feral cat population.

This six week old kitty named Merlin was rescued after he was found in a bad way. When Lori Darensbourg of the Northside Humane Society found Merlin and he had a bad eye infection that nearly took his vision in one eye.

Darensbourg says there are several free services out there for stray cats like Merlin.

"At least once a month we trap feral cats behind fast food restaurants, trailer parks, apartment complexes, or even at peoples houses where they're feeding a stray colony," says Darensbourg. "We bring them in once, maybe twice a month, to be spayed and neutered through Spay Baton Rouge, CAUSE, or Cat Haven. "

Merlin needs a good home. If you would like to adopt Merlin, please contact Lori by email at northsidehumane@yahoo.com
