Baton Rouge (NBC 33) — In Livingston Parish, the Sheriff’s Office has arrested two seventeen year olds and a sixteen year old in connection with a rash of burglaries that happened overnight Monday. The incidents were reported between midnight and 3:30 on Tara Drive and New Hope Avenue. They are streets in two separate Denham Springs subdivisions.
After a brief chase, deputies say the young men Hayven Nugent and Kemo Amos, along with the unidentified 16 year old, were found at a local hotel with items thought to have been taken from the homes. All three are facing a list of charges, including Aggravated Burglary, Felony Theft of a Motor Vechicle, and Illegal Possession of a Stolen Firearm.
In Jefferson Davis Parish, a 55 year old man confined to a wheelchair is dead after a fire at his house in Jennings. Officials say Kenneth Riggs died in the home despite efforts of his brother in law to get him out safely. Kenneth's mother was also inside the home, but was able to escape the blaze. She and many neighbors say Kenneth was known for helping others and making people laugh. The State Fire Marshall is still investigating the fire. Foul play is not suspected.
In West Baton Rouge Parish, the library in Port Allen is the only public library that placed in a national contest. It's called the “Read, Build, Play” contest. Youngsters
are given kits full of Legos and asked to build something that goes with the book they're reading. The West Baton Rouge Library placed 13th out of the 200 libraries that entered the contest. The library will get Duplo Legos and a Lego storybook.
